Permits
Where can I legally run my dogs? There is no short answer to this I'm afraid.
FC Land - the rules for FC land vary BUT on speaking to FCs around the country the rule is -
You can canicross and bikejor your dogs to your hearts content on FC land with no permit BUT for bikejoring it is always advised to ring your local FC and check with them. They may request you only do it after a certain hour, especially if the area you are using is particularly busy, just as a courtesy to other land users.
Someone belting round a corner being pulled by a dog into a group of children building a wigwam over a path would be a non starter - so we advise, use discretion and be polite!
Dryland Mushing and Scootering however you need a permit for - contact your local FC to find out the places you can train and apply for the permit. The costs vary but on average its approximately £80 a year for a permit. The FC have some great land put aside for training so use them, that's what they are for!

Private Land - if you have the permission of the owner of the land to use it, then do so - you are lucky! Try speaking to a local farmer, they often have areas they don't mind you using, you just have to ask!
Public Footpaths/Bridleways - Obviously its a no to dryland mush, scooter or bikejor on a footpath - but canicross - go for it, again just be aware of other users and be courteous.
Bridleways - you can bikejor along but not scooter or dryland mush.
Salisbury Plain - huge area - there are certain rules to be abided by on this land. Its army land after all.
Never train where there is a red flag or red light showing. And even if there is no flag flying the army can move you on at any point as they may start training in any area. Once again respect it and follow the rules.
NB - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OR TOUCH/PICK UP ANY MILITARY DEBRIS THAT MAYBE LYING AROUND.
Remember its not good for your dog to run on a hard surface for any period of time - pavements and roads are NOT advised, the affect on the joints could be long lasting. Canicrossing on pavements is fine every now and then, but not for miles and miles every day.
Basically its good old common sense that needs to prevail!
